Alicia Vikander Gaining Weight Was Empowering

The star opens up about being a mrs – and what it takes to be lara croft.

Alicia Vikander is positively glowing. ‘I feel I’m more happy and content than I’ve ever been,’ the 29-year-old stunner shares. And of course, she has every reason in the world to smile. As one of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars, she can now add blockbuster action heroine to her résumé – taking up the mantle from Angelina Jolie as archaeologist Lara Croft in the new film Tomb Raider.

But Alicia says her new-found bliss is mostly due to her handsome hubby Michael Fassbender. ‘The happy and content thing, that’s talking about my private life,’ she says.

The pair married in Ibiza last October, in a three-day celebration with family and friends, and they’ve now set up house in Lisbon, Portugal. ‘When I met my husband three-anda-half years ago, he had mentioned he’d been to Lisbon and loved it, and I knew friends who were moving out there,’ Alicia explains. ‘I was just starting to feel really at home in London. But after Brexit, I think I was like, “Meh, you know what? I want to stay in Europe.”’
