Nosipho (Nompilo Maphumulo) has gone from hill-top mansion looking down over KwaMashu to living in a shack with rats for friends after her collusion with the cops to take down her crimelord stepfather Nkunzi (Masoja Msiza) backfires. “She knows what is hers. She wants that back but that’s going to be difficult,” explains the actress. Because Nkunzi is going to put a hit on Nosipho to silence her forever.

NKUNZI THE MONSTER

Nompilo recalls her character’s first meeting with Nkunzi: down the barrel of a gun as he bullied his way into the family to seize control of the businesses set up by her late dad. “He’s taken the mansion, the cars, the shisanyama, hair salon and the scrapyard. Nosipho ran them successfully and wanted to take them to bigger successes,” says the actress. But Nkunzi didn’t care and knowing that he’s sitting in the plush leather chair in the big office irks Nosipho to the point that she agrees to Detective Mondli’s (Bonginkosi Thwala) weak promises that he will protect her if she steals evidence that can bring Nkunzi down. The reward for her, in turn, is that she can have her family businesses back. “Nosipho is fighting to get back what is rightfully hers,” says Nompilo. “Nosipho is the only one left to fight for her family’s legacy. She can’t let the things that her father worked so hard for go to other people.” Who’d have thought that a simple video of Nkunzi admitting being behind the hostel massacre of the Umbutho crime syndicate would be enough to ruin him?
