Well, look who just rolled into town! Paul Moroka Jr (Rebaone Kgosimore) and Anathi Mpofu (Nicholas Nkuna) might look like “magents”, but Generations: The Legacy have added these pinches of spice to heat up the pot . . . and the plot. Generations’s casting director Russel Savadier (you may remember him playing Harold Fisher in the comedy series Fishy Fêshuns) and the guys share a few facts . . .
ANATHI MPOFU
Nicholas has built an impressive, award-winning portfolio acting on several stages as well as in television productions, both local and international. You’ll recognise him as Fikani in soapie 7de Laan (see more on p2021), Sakhile in soapie Skeem Saam (see p18) and Nkululeko “Freedom” Nkosi in the drama series Erfsondes.
Nicholas’s role as seductive bad-boy Anathi sees him play the rogue journalist who will get the story no matter the cost. Russel Savadier notes, “Anathi Mpofu has a certain swagger. He has an arrogance – he dominates every room he enters. In Nicholas we found an actor who is able to dominate every scene he’s in. He has a strong screen presence – and we felt he was the perfect fit for our new, hard-nosed journalist.”
For Nicholas, the role is third time lucky. “Generations is one of those shows, which, as I grew up, has always been like a dream of mine to be part of. And to be part of what the show has done for South African television, for African television. I wanted to be part of that dream! It’s actually not the first time that I screen-tested for the show. This was the third time. It means in life if you want something, you’ve got to fight for it,” he insists.
