Grasping At Straws

Ndabezinhle finds hope and healing following the untimely death of her best friend Mnqobi.

Durban Gen hospital is still reeling from the December hostage crisis that ended with promising medical intern Mnqobi Mchunu (Fanele Zulu) fatally shot. Of all his colleagues, headstrong surgical intern Ndabezinhle (Lerato Nxumalo) is taking the loss the hardest. “Part of it is because Mnqobi confessed his undying love for her the morning of his murder,” says Lerato.

While she loved him, Ndabezinhle rejected the romantic advances, fearing that crossing the line would ruin their friendship. “She’s currently wallowing in regret. If she could, she’d turn back time and tell Mnqobi that she cares about him too. Not that it would’ve saved his life, but at least he would’ve known the truth,” adds the actress. While grieving, Ndabezinhle experiences an emotional breakdown that later evokes a painful memory from a tragic event in her childhood. “Ndabezinhle struggles to cope. She goes from blaming herself, to placing her job at risk. It’s all a disaster,” hints Lerato.
