The duchess is said to be ‘absolutely mortified’ over her best friend’s latest racism row

In August last year, Canadian stylist and socialite Jessica Mulroney was moved to speak out in defence of her best friend, Meghan Markle as she struggled with the spotlight in her role as a new royal. “When someone faces unfair criticism, you call it out. When that person is your friend and your family, you call those critics what they truly are. Shame on you, you racist bullies,” she posted in a graphic on her Instagram. “3 years of undeserved hate and abuse,” she captioned the post. “It’s enough.”

Now, the tide has turned, with Mulroney being called out publicly for her “white privilege” following an ugly episode in which she appeared to threaten to end the career of black lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter.

“Meghan is absolutely mortified that she’s been dragged into this complete mess,” a close friend of the duchess reportedly told the Daily Mail. “She said Jessica is in no way a racist, but the way she handled the situation was tone-deaf and heartbreaking.”
