Dung Beetles

There are three families of Dung Beetles. The Geotrupidae and Aphodiidae live in the cool regions, while the Scarabaeidae live in the Tropics. 7000 species of Dung Beetles live all over the world, except in Antarctic. Dung Beetles are called Scarab beetles or ‘Dung feeders’!

Dung Beetles were worshipped by some ancient religions. Indian tribes in South America believed that it was Aksak, a dung beetle that modeled the first man and woman out of clay.

To the Egyptians, Khepri was the Scarab God of the Sun. They believed that Khepri rolled the sun across the sky every day, buried him into night and brought him to a new life the next morning.
