IT’S NOT EVERY DAY the food editor of your favourite glossy food publication takes a break from her day job to cook a three-course feast for you and 19 friends. For the second year running, no less. But then again, not many people have made the winning bid at the same charity function two years in a row, which is exactly what Jean Baptiste de Speville, the MD of Floreal, a subdivision of the Mauritian-based company Ciel, did at the 2016 Woolworths Charity Ball. And perhaps it was because Jean Baptiste had experienced Abi’s prowess as hostess with the mostest the year before that he was happy to raise the paddle again for the coveted prize. That, and the fact that the money went to a good cause: the Woolworths Trust, established 14 years ago to help give back to the community.
