Most people know that the Cotswolds have featured in a fair few Hollywood movies and TV series.

From the Cotswolds to the world

The beautiful hills, the fabulous valleys, and the gorgeous stone buildings. It’s Hollywood’s obvious choice for the most romantic and quaint venues. But its latest appearance. I’m afraid, uses none of these assets. Most recently, the Cotswolds have been the setting for an isolation cell. A prisoner, held hostage in a single, bleak room. But more of that later.

The Holiday, starring Cameron Diaz and Jude Law was, in part, filmed in Chipping Norton. Bridget Jones’s Diary in Snowshill, War Horse in Castle Combe and the Harry Potter films in Gloucester, Oxford and Lacock. At least two, movie industry leaders are based in the Cotswolds – Stroud’s Snow Business are world leaders in artificial snow and winter effects and Rycote, also of Stroud, make virtually every fluffy microphone cover that you will see thrust in the face of politicians or cosily adorning microphones on all kinds of film sets around the world. In fact, since I moved to the Cotswolds over 20 years ago, there isn’t a film that I’ve worked on which didn’t have a Rycote product, with a label saying “Made in Stroud” for me to discover and proudly crow about.
