Stay in Vogue with Pantone Colours of the Year 2021

2020 has been revolutionary in many ways, our lifestyle changed, everyone has cocooned into their homes and spending more time indoors. We all somehow learned to maintain a balance between staying calm and aspirational. Inspired by this phase, Pantone announced ‘Illuminating’ which is a bright yellow colour and ‘Ultimate Grey’ which assure feelings of composure and resilience. The trendy colour palette looks exciting this year – what with the Pantone Fashion Colour Trend Report that’s released its range of shades inspired by the beauty of nature. Published for the fashion industry by the Pantone Color Institute, Pantone’s trend forecasting and colour consultancy, this season’s report features 10 top standout colours inspiring ingenuity and inventiveness. These are also versatile, transcending all seasons, allowing for more freedom of choice. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute shares, “Offering a range of shades illustrative of nature, colors for Spring/Summer 2021 underscores our desire for flexible color that works year-round. Infused with a genuine authenticity that continues to be increasingly important, colors for Spring/ Summer 2021 combine a level of comfort and relaxation with sparks of energy that encourage and uplift our moods.” These interesting hues illustrative of nature coupled with new core classics are already being lapped up by designers across the world.There are quite a few Pantone colours for 2021, but the two top ones this year are…Illuminating: Friendly and joyful, an optimistic yellow offering the promise of a sunny day and Ultimate Grey: Quietly assuring and reliable grey encouraging composure.

The biggest colour trends of 2021 are taking a cue from this last tumultuous year and giving people a sense of hope, optimism and the refresh that many are looking for in the new year. The bright yellow hue is meant to evoke hope and optimism after the tumultuous year. The colour goes along with Pantone’s second colour of 2021, Ultimate Grey, and is said to represent sunshine coming in as clouds disperse. Pantone’s second colour of the year is said to represent dependability, as community and camaraderie became crucial during the pandemic. Paired with Illuminating, the hues convey the message of unity, stability and hope.

According to designer, Arjun Agarwal, “Yellow has always been a favourite colour during the wedding season... mehndi and lighters functions are always synonymous with shades of yellow… the modern touch of grey is a fresh take on the traditional colour... keeping it millennial and contemporary.”
