Home and Away stalwart Alf Stewart has had a few close shaves in his 30 years in the Bay, including a brain tumour, a nervous breakdown, a heart attack and posttraumatic stress disorder after his time serving in the Vietnam War. But, right now, he’s experiencing the closest shave of all. Drifting in and out of consciousness, he lies at the bottom of a sinkhole that’s been caused by a gas explosion. ‘It’s not looking good for him – he can’t move as there’s a massive slab of concrete pinning him to the floor and, at first, it seems there’s no one in the hole with him, so there’s no visible help in sight,’ says actor Ray Meagher. It turns out daughter Roo Stewart’s with him, but he fears both characters could be doomed!
