East Enders star Danny Dyer learns more about his unexpected royal heritage
Danny Dyer saunters into a plush meeting room during a break from filming EastEnders at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, pours himself a coffee and slumps down in a chair. He’s still in one of Mick Carter’s shirts, yet it’s not his role as the Queen Vic landlord we’ve come to discuss.
The soap star got the surprise of is life in 2016 when he learnt that he was descended from 14th-century monarch King Edward III in an unforgettable episode of Who Do You Think You Are?
But that was only the start of the story…
‘I remember sitting there in Westminster Abbey and hearing that Edward III was my 26-times great-grandfather,’ says Dyer. ‘It was a revelation, and as I’m trying to digest it, the credits roll – so Who Do You Think You Are? ended just as it started to get good!’
