Emma Stone was just 15 years old, living in Arizona in the US with her family, when she used a PowerPoint presentation to convince her parents to take her to Los Angeles to jump-start her acting career. She made her mark as a comedic actress in films like Superbad, Easy A, and Crazy, Stupid Love, but it was her performance in La La Land that won her the Best Actress Oscar in 2017. emma was also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in the period dramedy, The Favourite, at this year’s Academy Awards. She lives between New York City and Los Angeles with her Saturday Night Live director boyfriend, dave McCary.
i knew acting was what i wanted to make my life’s work.
It took over a month before I was able to convince my parents how serious I was, although my father was pretty open to the idea from the start. He is a self-made man, so he appreciated my desire to pursue my dream. My mother eventually came around but, naturally, she was worried. They knew nothing about the movie business, yet were ready to support me because they believed in me. My mother accompanied me to LA, even though it meant a big change in her life; you never forget that kind of selfless love.
I still have a lot of doubts and insecurities.
