Creator of Versace’s new Dylan Blue Pour Femme fragrance, Calice Becker, takes us on a scent journey.
French master perfumer Calice Becker is the nose behind some of our favourite fragrances: Dior J’Adore, Avon Far Away Gold and now Versace Dylan Blue Pour Femme. We asked her to talk us through the making of a fragrance.
Which comes first, the juice or the concept?
In the creation of any fragrance, the juice and concept must be developed at the same time. But you need a clear idea of what you want to achieve to let the concept in. Ideas also come from different situations and experiences. For example, the other day, I was walking in a garden and found mint and laurel leaves, which immediately inspired me to create a fresh, new masculine fragrance.
How do you prepare?
To get the best results from your nose, you need to be healthy and well-rested. If you’re tired or stressed, it affects the quality of your nose’s performance.
