Artycapucines Collection - Classic Being Refreshed By Six Contemporary Artists

Launched seven years ago, Louis Vuitton’s Capucines bag gets its name from Rue des Neuves Capucines, where the house opened its very first store. Now, this year’s limited edition Artycapucines collection sees the classic being refreshed by six contemporary artists

How’s this for handy work: The Brazilian artist’s bag features 18 types of leather, which are worked to the same thickness before getting inlaid onto a lambskin base using marquetry techniques. Finishing the rainbow of textures and colours are gold leaf details, and an injected silicone gel peace sign. Taking the idea of mixing media even further, the LV logo comes in enamel and gel, so as to perfectly match the body’s design.

We think that the contemporary French artist’s piece is just perfect for summertime, which, let’s face it, is all the time in Singapore. This Capucines’ body is hand-woven in raffia, with a black satin silk trimming that brings to mind haute couture detailing. The bag’s handle is almost sculptural with its large black resin beads, which are a subtle nod to the artist’s famous Le Kiosque des Noctambules Palais Royal Métro entrance in Paris. A bag charm, also composed of resin beads, completes this wearable work of art.
