Attorney Tony Roman III is not a fan of those who break the law, but he is a fan of breaking society’s unnecessary systemic barriers—especially those that, at best, cause gross misinformation and, at worst, allow divisive ideologies to thrive. Here are a few of the quintessential views we mustered from our sitdown chat with the mild-mannered attorney from Bataan; as well as the hows and whys behind his ongoing pursuit of providing poignant legal advice to anyone and everyone who needs it.
ROOTS OF SERVICE
While familial reputation certainly does not exist as a necessity in order to be of assistance to others, the lineage of the attorney can be traced to an entire clan of esteemed public servants. Both his parents, the late Antonino Roman Jr. and Herminia Roman, served as the Representatives of the First District of Bataan in the Philippine House of Representatives for almost two decades; an office that the attorney’s sister, Representative Geraldine Roman, now holds on the back of a historic win in the 2016 general elections. Despite such a decorated pedigree, Attorney Tony Roman III initially set his sails towards the United States, where he was able to secure a license to practice law from the New York bar. In this, Attorney Roman was able to provide a life of comfort for him and his family. In a sudden epiphany, this would all change when Attorney Roman decided to take his career back to the Philippines in 2019.

STAY COOL
Another month, another form of community quarantine. We’ll spare you the adjectives, because what it really is, is limbo.
GOOD LEADERSHIP
I’ve been an employee and a business owner for nearly two decades now and during one of the long nights of 2020, I asked myself, “What kind of leader do I want to be?” This is a question that can easily be answered by, “I want to be a good leader.” But the truth is, it is so difficult to even come close to good. You see, many if not all of our jobs is a business, a business that has to keep spending at bay, one that has to increase profits year over year, and one that has to keep workers happy and motivated. Those things are polar opposites of one another and to find the perfect middle is challenging. For months, I’ve mulled over my own question and I think I’ve found the answer. I want to be that leader that inspires personal growth.

BE HAPPY
Two months ago, I was announced as the head of One Mega Group, a position previously held by our late Founder, Sari Yap, and then our current Chairman, Archie Carasco. Full disclosure, I knew about this announcement six months ago at the height of the pandemic. When I was told, I laughed. I wasn’t sure if it was a nervous laughter, an amused chuckle or both. I honestly thought it was a prank that would be revealed seconds later, but it wasn’t.
