The mood was upbeat, yet cautious, at the start of the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair this past September. The second largest gem and jewellery show in the world, just behind the HKTDC-sponsored March show in terms of exhibitors, featured 3,692 participants from 56 countries and regions, according to the show’s organiser UBM.
The 35th edition of the September edition of the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair began at the Asia World Expo (AWE) on September 13th, with five days of beautiful gemstones, diamonds and pearls. From September 15th to 19th, finished jewellery, antique jewellery, packaging and equipment (with an 18% larger space) were on display at the large and modern Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in the Wanchai district of Hong Kong Island.
Other related events surrounding the twin gem and jewellery shows were the prestigious JNA Awards (see Sidebar) and a special presentation honouring 221 exhibitors who have participated in the fair for 25 to 35 consecutive years, as well as eight who have been with the show for the entire 35 years. “We are excited to present the Loyalty Award at the fair reception to eight exhibitors as a symbol of our appreciation of their support for UBM Asia’s jewellery fairs for 35 consecutive years,” said Celine Lau, director of jewellery fairs at UBM Asia. The eight exhibitors receiving the award were: Continental Jewellery (Mfg) Ltd., Lo & Rador International Ltd.; Lucoral Hong Kong Ltd. / Oriental Source Co., Luen On Jewellery Factory Ltd., Myer Jewelry Mfr. Ltd.,Oriental First Jewelry Manufacturer Ltd., Pointers Gemcraft& Jewellery Mfy., and TSL Jewellery (Export) Company Ltd.
