Sexy, subversive and strong, PETRA COLLINS’s gaze is redefining fashion. The photographer-provocateur talks to SHRUTI THACKER about her affinity with film and the power of selfies today
A lot has been said about the limiting male gaze in fashion magazines lately. “Fashion lives in the world of five male photographers— I don’t even have to name them,” says Petra Collins, the 24-year old photographer - model film maker. From setting up an all-female art collective, Ardorous, out of high school to being part of the 2016 Photo Vogue Festival that featured images by photographers like Cindy Sherman and Sarah Moon, Collins has become the poster child for the female gaze in fashion today. “I get hired because I’m creating these new images. I’m the person they call in to make the change,” she concedes.
