Butterfly Watch: Small copper (Lycaena phlaeas)

ANYONE who thinks that all butterflies are gentle, graceful creatures that flit from flower to flower with peaceful grace has obviously never met the small copper.

The males are fiercely territorial of the spot of unimproved grassland they have made their own, and will aggressively chase off any insect that flies into their patch, before returning to the same spot where they were resting.
