Turning 50 needn’t be a negative. Davina McCall tells Natalia Lubomirski why she’s stronger than ever before – and reveals how her new workout can do the same for you...
Scrolling through her Instagram photos, it’s hard to believe that Davina ‘the abs’ McCall turned 50 a few months ago. With toned legs and a rock-hard stomach, the mum-of three rocks a body to rival most 20-year olds. That red thong bikini? We stared, we gawped, we cried... and swiftly knocked out 20 squats.
While being the owner of a taut, toned age-defying bod is nothing new for the TV presenter, this last year has seen her discover a whole new side to exercise. ‘I’m the fittest and healthiest I’ve ever been,’ confides Davina , who credits her fit figure to one lady – Sarah Gorman – who she met over a year ago while attending a local class she was teaching.
‘She’s incredible. She takes several types of exercise – Pilates, ballet, boxing and dance – and blends them into different workouts,’ says Davina. ‘It means you’re constantly challenging your whole body, which is so important, and you’re never bored.’ Which is why Davina chose to team up with Sarah to create her latest DVD, Davina: toned in 10. ‘Blending different techniques, it gets the best results for your entire body, focusing on developing core strength alongside some cardio in order to burn those calories,’ And the class is broken down into 10-minute sections, so anyone can fit exercise into their busy lifestyle. ‘These routines haven’t just shredded my body – at the end of each workout I feel energised, like I can take on the world,’ claims Davina.
‘The thing I’ve most enjoyed is Barre’
