Homeopathy Is Natural Medicine
Homeopathy & You
|June 2017
It is a familiar question. modern medicine is highly dependent on the role of pharmaceuticals — why does homeopathy avoid their use? Here goes the debate… and, its homeopathic standpoint…
Homeopathic medicines [remedies] are made primarily from natural sources. They are nonprescription and non-proprietary medicines in many countries. Homeopathic medicines cannot, therefore, be patented and/or exclusively sold, unlike conventional or allopathic pharmaceutical preparations/products. Some medicines are common to homeopathy and conventional medicine — the big difference is the manufacturing process. Homeopathy uses micro-doses; conventional medicine uses ‘quantified/actualised’ doses.
Homeopathy is characterised by the administration of small quantities of medicines that in much greater concentrations precipitate the appearance of symptoms of the illness/disease being treated [homoios = similar; pathos = sickness]. For example, Veratrum Album [white hellebore], which is considered effective against cholera, causes violent purging that may lead to severe dehydration, if administered in large doses —symptoms exactly like cholera itself.
Likewise, Belladonna [atropine] is used to treat scarlet fever. Symptoms of Belladonna poisoning closely resembles the classical symptoms of scarlet fever.
In their homeopathic form, they are used to treat ‘like’ illnesses without side-effects.
