FOR YEARS LITTLE COULD BE DONE IN BODYBUILDING CIRCLES TO CORRECT MUSCLE IMBALANCES, THAT IS UNTIL THE RISE OF THE GIRTH JAB.
THE RISE OF PMMA
PMMA, or polymethyl methacrylate microspheres, is a dermal filler for cosmetic body sculpting that can purportedly transform lagging body parts into stronger ones. The use of PMMA dates back to 1936 when it was used as a bone cement to affix implants and remodel lost bone. It was chemically synthesised in 1904.
Due to its bio-compatibility with human tissue, it has been extensively used as a soft tissue filler, as a component of denture materials and tooth bond, and even for housing of pacemakers and intraocular and contact lenses.
The first person who developed the concept of using PMMA for tissue augmentation was Professor Gott fried Lemperle in Germany in 1989. Since then tiny PMMA microspheres suspended in biological fluid are injected under the skin as part of cosmetic correction to reduce wrinkles or scars permanently.
WHAT IS PMMA?
PMMA is a synthetic resin derived from the polymerisation of methyl methacrylate and often used as a substitute for glass in products such as skylights, illuminated signs, shatterproof windows and aircraft canopies. Plastic surgeons also use PMMA for implants, acne scars, face lifts and the augmentation of thin lips. Injecting PMMA increases local volume. The efficacy of the filler material along with their side effects and complications are related to product composition, impurities, or the specific method of injection such as needle size, uneven distribution, inadequate volume and depth of placement of the material.
