It’s not often that a staircase is thought of as a game changer, but when it came to the renovation of Andrew Hodgkinson’s London home, the redesign of this pivotal element prompted everything to fall into place. ‘The staircase is the backbone of a home and we knew that repositioning it would unlock the interiors for us,’ says Andrew, an interior designer (hodgkinson-design.co.uk) who lives here with his wife Mariann and daughters Freya, 23, and Lucia, 19. ‘So we moved it to the far left of the hallway, enabling an unobtrusive view from front to back.’
