There’s no need to drill holes in these old timber desk drawers because they’re just holding traditional pots. But you may want to lay down plastic liners to prevent the timber rotting from excess water.

Old, leaky boots already come with drainage holes and this is important when you’re growing succulents – they hate wet feet.

Recycle an old wagon wheel or a modern bike wheel for your little herb garden. Between spokes, poke in your essential herbs, such as rosemary, thyme, lavender, marjoram, chervil, mint or chamomile.
