The bedroom is your personal blissful sanctum sanctorium. Studies have revealed that your choice of serene colours, bed frames, mattress designs, and decorative elements could affect your quality of sleep. What makes a luxurious bedroom, according to award-winning British interior designer Katharine Pooley? Here, she reveals key elements to pulling off the look and atmosphere you want in the bedroom!
MINIMALISM IS SIMPLE ENOUGH: “A neutral, monochromatic, or tonal design that embraces clean lines and sculptural form - usually utilising texture over patterns or colour. Minimalism in interior design means a simplification of details and a feeling of spaciousness and lightness.”
GOING FOR A MONOCHROMATIC COLOUR SCHEME? Do this by incorporating cushions and throws in muted shades of ivory and dove grey. Darker accents can be brought inthrough a pair of bedside tables.
SURFACE FINISHES MAKE SMALLER ROOMS FEEL EXPANSIVE. “My tip would be to embrace polished plaster wall finishes, which reflect light.” Selenite, lacquer, shagreen, or crackled gesso in light colours can be reflected in your choice of furniture flaunting clean lines and simple sculptural or art deco shapes.
Create a serene atmosphere and an illusion of space with colours. “A white or very light backdrop is critical to any minimalist look,” explains Katharine. Tone down the harsh starkness of an all-white backdrop by incorporating a combination of soft colours.
