Studio Osmosis creates an organic, visually appealing workspace that demonstrates innovative use of building materials
When SJ Contracts, a two-decade-old contracting company from Pune had its office designed, it got more than just a working space. Within the flow of the office, Studio Osmosis, the design firm behind the project, decided to demonstrate the client’s forte with construction materials in an innovative and bold fashion, giving a visual treat to the employees. The innovative 4,000 sqft space was completed in a span of four months and now accommodates about 50 working professionals.
Sameer Balvally, Principal Partner, Studio Osmosis, says, “The fact that their business is about working with raw materials, we have tried to use those materials in their most raw form. We involved the employees in the construction phase and designed an office that would exude an unfinished character and yet be aesthetically pleasing.” The space is also meant to serve as a medium to demonstrate the quality of work executed by SJ Contracts for its guests and clients.
To achieve the desired look, a 3.5 inch-thick concrete wall was constructed by the client’s in-house team on-site, with steel pipes punctured into it. Hollow circular openings in the wall allow light to stream into the reception lobby and create a unique play of light.
