'Fitted furniture can make a wonderful statement in the home. Aesthetics are imperative but storage is key when it comes to using your design.'
Long for a life behind closed doors, with fitted furniture that makes the most of your space while banishing clutter? There's plenty to consider when designing a bespoke solution for a bedroom, living room or home office, as our experts two fitted furniture design specialists and an interior designer share.
WHY CHOOSE FITTED?
Fitted furniture works brilliantly as it saves space and looks stylish,' says Cigal. It's also a great way to bring in detail through the finishes and door styles. You can be creative too - there are so many more things you can do with fitted than freestanding.'
Most houses, particularly period properties, aren't perfectly symmetrical,' explains Natalie, 'so furniture must work within the architectural quirks, such as skirting boards, uneven walls, architraves and low ceilings. Freestanding furniture struggles to cope with these, while fitted can create a seamless design that feels like it is part of the room, rather than a piece that has been placed within it. From a practical point of view, fitted furniture doesn't have any gaps for dust to get trapped in - and it will maximise every centimetre of available storage within the space."
