Set in a beautiful olive grove overlooking the Atlas Mountains, Peacock Pavilions is an American couple’s dream come true of a private home they designed themselves, but also a cosy boutique hotel with character and style

Moroccan Retreat

A world away from the hustle of Marrakesh, Maryam Montague and her husband Chris Redecke have created a stylishly relaxed home set against the rugged landscape of the Moroccan hinterland. Behind a heavy carved wooden door a water basin filled with rose petals welcomes you and the scent of fresh rosemary plants surrounds you. A mint tea is served as you settle into the comfy sofas and admire the incredible space, where refracted sunlight illuminates the entrance. It’s a rich interior to take in. Maryam has blended materials and colours to great effect and created a comfortable home for her family, and a boutique hotel for international guests called Peacock Pavilions.

When Maryam and her husband decided to settle in Morocco they lived in Rabat. Both of them had fallen in love with the country and it was central to several of Maryam’s missions, as a US human rights specialist in the Middle East. For several years, the couple led a nomadic life and lived in many different African and Middle Eastern countries where their respective jobs had led them, but now they had children and a need for a steady home base.
