A Guide To Planning Your Kitchen
Ireland's Homes Interiors & Living Magazine|June 2019

Planning your new kitchen is no easy task. It is worth taking the time to consider all the elements before you begin so that things go as smoothly as possible. There is more to your kitchen than just how it looks; you should spend time thinking about your everyday needs, as well as the style and design.

A Guide To Planning Your Kitchen

Choosing your kitchen designer

When you hire a kitchen designer, their purpose should be to create a space that makes the best use of the square footage you have available in the most efficient way possible and which suits the needs and desires of you and your family – not a kitchen that just demonstrates their talent for design. A good kitchen designer should take time to find out what ideas you have, your family’s lifestyle, and tie their work in with the overall style of your home.

Everyone’s budget varies, and designers know this, so be honest with your kitchen designer about your budget for the project and ask if the remodelling kitchen ideas you hope for are feasible for that amount. Don’t allow yourself to be talked into stretching your budget too far as it can take all the enjoyment out of the project and replace it with stress. There are things you may need to compromise on but this can all be talked through with your designer and they will guide you in making appropriate choices for your budget and needs.

Ask how many projects similar to yours they have done in the past and if it would be possible to see images of those projects – or even if you can pay a visit to a home if it is nearby. When inspecting their projects, don’t be afraid to ask the previous customers what they thought of the services from the designer. For example, did they work with a sense of urgency, did they provide innovative ideas and different options that enhanced the clients expectations of their kitchen. Also don’t be afraid to ask your designer lots of questions, and if there is something you would like done differently than one of their previous designs, say so – this is your kitchen.
