Sarah McKenna’s Irish pottery is all about linking memories and nostalgia to transform an everyday object into a special gift.
Sarah McKenna

Sarah has been creating her unique handmade Irish pottery for over 20 years in Bridge Street Studios, Dundalk, County Louth. Located on the top floor of a 250-year-old grain store, she shares the studio with seven female art, design and craftspeople, who are celebrating 25 years in operation this year. She lives surrounded by music and art with her husband and two sons in Dundalk.

Sarah studied Ceramics at Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art & Design, the University of Dundee, Scotland where she gained a Bachelor of Ceramic Design and in 2006 she started producing a range of quirky, customisable ceramics giftware which was the beginning of what has now become a successful business. Her work uses layers of messaging, created by using patterns, bright colours and text which subtly say little things people want to tell each other without having to say them out loud. Often using inspiring quotes, poetry and sentimental lyrics, Sarah’s individual pieces convey feelings of joy once known and happy memories. By using nostalgia and sentiment, she transforms everyday objects into special gifts, which will be lovingly cherished.
