From the outside, this Danish home resembles a storybook cottage. Inside, it’s an eclectic dreamscape of whimsical pieces and DIY delights
Rest and relax Upstairs, Mette has created an oasis-like reading room complete with daybed from Sofakompagniet, a golden Nordal bar trolley, Puik Design rug, About Form and Function glass baubles and mismatched cushions. Think outside the wall Painting a mural directly onto the wall may seem like a bold move, but Mette’s masterpiece perfectly complements the space. The round sofa is another Sofakompagniet find.
who lives here?

WHEN METTE HOLM AND HER PARTNER Lars Neilsen came across this pretty, Swedish wooden house located near the city of Aarhus in Denmark, Mette thought one thing: Pippi Longstocking. “I instantly fell in love with the location – close to nature, close to the city – and loved the idea of living in a house that resembled Pippi Longstocking’s fictional home, Villa Villekulla,” she says. The couple purchased the home in 2010, and as a full-time design and lifestyle blogger, Mette was well placed to decorate it using her trademark flair for mixing contemporary Scandi designers with her own DIY creations along with vintage finds sourced from all over the world.
