FINDING NEUTRAL GROUND

This Hamptons home delivers picturesque outlooks and an unexpected aesthetic influenced by Scandinavian design and a woodland location

FINDING NEUTRAL GROUND

WHEN THE OWNERS of this holiday home in the Hamptons, New York, decided they wanted to renovate in early 2019, they went with the husband-and-wife team, interior designer Charlotte Sylvain and architect Shikhar Thakur, of Studio Fauve. While the property was structurally sound, the house was dated and the interiors were in need of a refresh.

DREAM "The clients wanted to upgrade the design of the house for their personal use on the weekends and holidays, but also to rent it out, so the design had to be functional and resilient.

They were looking for a bright and airy feel, a space that felt beachy without being too literal," says Charlotte.

"The job included refinishing the floors, painting the entire space, redoing the bathrooms and kitchen entirely, and picking new furniture and lighting for the whole space," adds Shikhar.

DESIGN As the house was located in a heavily wooded area with shingle-style houses that are mostly timber frame constructions, Charlotte and Shikhar chose to use different species of wood throughout the interior in reference to the location. A Scandinavian aesthetic enhances the woodland feel.
