Fresh perspective Inside the house, sculptural frustrum roofs have concrete reverse step detailing. The bold Jardan sofa, timber Apato coffee table, Bernabeifreeman rug and Gubi pendant add character to the living room, which features polished concrete floors and Austral Masonry honed brick walls. RUGGED, CAREFREE AND LOW-MAINTENANCE, this beach house on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula isn't the type of home you typically find by the seaside. Constructed almost entirely from concrete and blockwork, it was created to be a holiday escape for a busy family of four from Melbourne by Albert Mo, the director of Melbourne architecture and interior firm Architects EAT.
Set in stone Like the living space, the dining space ceiling features the reverse step concrete detailing. A Gubi pendant light hangs over a Grazia & Co dining table and Domo chairs, with a metal artwork by Emma Davies titled Canopy standing sentinel over it all. “The piece is made up of 48,000 fingerprints, reclaimed bird net and bailing twine, and it resembles the snowgum bark, bringing the outside in," says Albert. The open-plan kitchen and dining join to the outdoor entertaining area.
