This bright, airy Hermanus family holiday home was thoughtfully designed for easy living.
When interior designer Karen Smit of K&R Design Consultants and her husband bought an unpretentious, single-storey house in Hermanus’ popular Voëlklip area, it had been home to an elderly couple for many years.
It was dark and dated with small cottage pane windows, was painted black, brown and dark green and cluttered with furniture collected over the course of a long, happy lifetime. But for Karen, the daughter of renowned South African designer Reney Otto, who has lived and breathed style and design her entire life, the house was crying out for a complete overhaul.
