European football marked Brendan Rodgers’ bow as Celtic manager and after a tough start, the Hoops progressed to their first group stage matches in three years
CELTIC were left stunned in Gibraltar after Lee Casciaro’s early second-half goal gave Lincoln Red Imps a shock 1-0 win over the Scottish champions. The Hoops dominated possession and hit the bar twice through Leigh Griffiths but they couldn’t get a goal.
However, the Hoops cruised into the Champions League third qualifying round after sweeping aside the Gibraltar side 3-0 in Paradise to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory.
In the next round, in a testing long-haul trip to Kazakhstan, Leigh Griffiths’ late strike sealed a priceless 1-1 draw away to FC Astana in the first-leg.
The Hoops then booked their place in the play-off round with a last-gasp penalty from Moussa Dembele on a night of drama at Paradise.
