Wedding etiquette has changed greatly in recent years. An increasing number of couples are paying for their big day themselves, rather than relying on cash injections from their parents and this is one of the reasons why they are choosing to take the advice, “it’s your wedding, do it your way.”

Planning a wedding can be a minefield at the best of times – trying not to upset other people while remaining true to yourself – so it’s no wonder the ‘rules’ have shifted over time. We take a look at these changes in wedding traditions and how you can make them work for you at a time when weddings are forced to be smaller, more intimate occasions.

THE WALK DOWN THE AISLE

Traditionally the bride walks down the aisle with her father, but now we are seeing more and more brides making their entrance with other family members. Mothers, siblings, children are all walking the bride down the aisle, and it’s a lovely thing to witness.
