The critically acclaimed actor talks to Prasad Ramamurthy about why she’s a beach bum, her memories of Kashmir and the books and movies that inspire her travels
What are the sort of vacations you like to take?
“I am part Kashmiri and while I was growing up, we used to visit every summer. So I am just about done with the mountains. Now, I pick beaches with lots of sun, where I can swim, eat and chill. Of the places I’ve been to, Lake Como and Capri are gorgeous. Seychelles is on my bucket list, as is Hawaii.”
So does that mean you’re not a city person at all?
“Don’t get me wrong—I love cities. Mumbai, New York, London—the big cities, the busy lifestyle. I think they are great. There is always a new play, underground music scene, something to discover. But I do believe that once in a while, you should take that little break where you do simple things. Go to the market, buy vegetables and cook a nice meal. Catch your own fish. Go swimming in the sea. Learn a skill. I like that sort of vacation.”
