3 Steps to Self-Care

Women always take really good care of the people around them but they seldom find the time to take care of themselves. If you are one of those women who never seem to have any time to yourself, these three steps will help you change that routine and bring in more positivity to your personal and professional life.

Step 1: Carve Out Some Me Time

It’s not easy to always be working, you need some down time when you can relax and take a breather from your hectic schedule. No matter how busy your daily schedule may be, you can always carve out some ‘me’ time.

• Make a list of things that you want to do and pick one for each day; just make sure to follow through on the items. You can then tick them off your list. If planning for a week seems too big of a task, you can always simply plan for two days in advance.

• If you have young kids who need your attention, it would be difficult to get some ‘me’ time during the day but you can always plan relaxing activities during the night. This way, once you put the kids to bed, you can enjoy some alone time. Your plans don’t have to be anything big or special. It could be anything that can help you de-stress like enjoying a bath or filling out an adult colouring book.

• Ask your spouse/boyfriend to take charge of the house for a while and use the time to de-stress from all the pressure. You can watch a movie, listen to some music, read a book or do nothing. An hour or two may not seem like much but in the long run, it will help keep you sane.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS

People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
