Swati Saxena recounts how Kerala proved to be the perfect destination for her first solo trip.
Aa message popped up on my screen one day about huge discounts on domestic airfares, I booked the onward ticket to Kerala on a whim considering it a sign from the universe to make the solo trip happen. At this point, I knew nothing about God’s Own Country except the houseboats and backwaters. After researching a bit on the internet, a rough itinerary was made. My friends suggested that it’s a honeymoon/couple’s paradise, hinting that I shouldn’t go alone. I ignored them, going ahead with my Kochi-Alleppey-Varkala route. I chose the relatively touristy southern side of the state because on my first solo trip, being surrounded by crowds sounded better than wandering alone in a forest. In hindsight, here are some of the reasons I feel thankful for choosing Kerala, or rather, Kerala choosing me:
