BMW Golf Cup International 2017 Malaysia World Finalists Crowned In Paradise
The BMW Golf Cup  International 2017 Malaysia National Final presented a historical first to crown Malaysia’s champions that will play in the World Final next year at Fancourt, South Africa.

The nation’s most prestigious amateur event staged its National Final at The Els Club Teluk Datai in Langkawi, away from the Klang Valley for the first time in its 11-year history.

Nothing was spared as BMW Malaysia pulled out all the stops to fete its loyal customers and sponsors with an exclusive getaway to the exotic island. Lodging was provided at The Andaman Resort, which staged a memorable welcoming beach party before the National Finalists teed-off the next day on Nov 16.

The Els Club Teluk Datai, ranked No. 83 in the world on Golf Digest magazine’s ‘World Top 100 Courses’, set the stage for 18 holes of challenging golf on the 6762-yard, Par 72 layout designed by multiple Major champion, Ernie Els.

In the Men’s A Category, 9-handicapper Datuk Son Tong Leong played exceptional golf to win his place in the World Final after he signed for 68 Nett. Son’s victory was even more impressive as it was the Tiara Melaka Country Resort member’s first visit to The Els Club Teluk Datai.

“Most of my family members and I own a few BMW cars and I have been trying to qualify for the World Final nearly nine to 10 times,” said Son, a Melakan who arrived in Langkawi two days before the tournament to practice. “The course layout is very challenging, especially the super-slick greens. It feels amazing to have finally qualified to play in the World Final at Fancourt after trying for so many years. At last I have won, and what more at this course. What makes it all the more special is because I have never travelled to South Africa.”

What's Next For Carson Palmer?

Carson Palmer is an old football player in the prime of his golf life. The 2002 Heisman Trophy winner, now 37, recently took a month to decide if his body could survive another NFL season at quarterback. The answer, to the relief of Arizona Cardinals fans, was yes, and so Palmer’s dream of playing golf every day will wait a little longer. “Some guys wonder if they’ll get bored with golf in retirement, but I don’t envision ever having that problem,” says Palmer, who is “always up for 36 in a heartbeat” when being a dad to two young kids allows it.
