When Stephanie Bailey introduced her best friend Tina Stewart to a close pal of hers, she hoped the pair would hit it off.

Tina had separated from her fiancee and was feeling lonely, so Stephanie thought that she would play matchmaker.

Sadly, bringing Tina and Nicholas Holden together is something that Stephanie now deeply regrets.

Tina, 30, was murdered by Holden in November 2017 when he beat her to a pulp and left her to die. Now, Stephanie, 37, from Washington, US, has to live without her best friend.

“I feel such guilt that I introduced them,” Stephanie exclusively tells New Idea. “I honestly thought that bringing them together was a good thing, that she deserved to be happy. Now I regret ever having brought that man into her life. He has robbed us all of the most beautiful friend and mother and we miss her desperately – I will never get over the loss.”

Unconventionally, Stephanie met Tina when her ex-boyfriend Andrew started dating the pretty brunette in the spring of 2003. Tina immediately took on a role as second mum to Stephanie and Andrew’s daughter Kira, who was then just 3 months old. Stephanie and Andrew’s split was amicable and they shared custody of Kira.

“Tina loved Kira like her own,” Stephanie tells. “I worked long hours and she would dress her up as a princess and take pictures for me. I also had a daughter Jazmine from a previous relationship and Tina made her welcome at their house too. After Andrew, I married and had a daughter Hailey, now 13, and Tina adored her.”
