Flower School

The wedding of Ree's daughter Alex to Mauricio Scott last May was beautiful for many reasons, but the highlight (other than the gorgeous bride!) was the incredible display of flowers. The Fleuriste, an Oklahoma City floral shop, covered nearly every surface of the Drummond Ranch reception tent with roses, tulips, delphiniums, wisteria and jasmine—and the result was intoxicating.

Flowers have a way of instantly transforming a space, and you don't need to surround yourself with thousands of them to feel the magic. A simple, well-conceived bouquet can easily boost your mood.

The Fleuriste owners Meredith and Matthew Woods offer hands-on workshops to show beginners how to arrange flowers like a pro, and the classes have become a huge hit. (Chardonnay, passed hors d'oeuvres and a room full of blooms make a pretty fun combination!) If you can't get to one of their classes, or a flower school near you, turn the page: We asked The Fleuriste pro Bobby Ware to teach us how to make a simple but showstopping spring bouquet at home.

Make a Bouquet

Start with these spring blooms and foliage. You can find them (or close matches) at grocery stores with a good flower section or at farmers' markets.

The Fleuriste's master florist Bobby Ware shows us how to create a gorgeous centerpiece.

1. Fill a cylindrical glass vase with water. Using clear tape, make a three-by-three grid over the opening, then secure the grid to the edge of the vase with more tape.
