It was the year 1989, when a group of nature lovers named The Junglees found a destination where flocks of migratories flapped their wings in the midst of an oxbow lake named Chupir Char or Kasthashali Bird Sanctuary of Purbasthali, in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal. It has become a well-known destination for birdwatchers and tourists in the last few years. The land welcomes more than 100 species of birds during winter, among them the most popular being the Red-crested Pochard – the king of Purbasthali.
