More Than Just a Quick Fix

Power couple Dr Ravinpreet Kaur and Dr Wishnu Varthan of Skin Master Medispa set their own industry standards by creating their own machines as well as treatments that cater better to Asian skin

“I had all my machines specially made actually,” Dr Ravinpreet reveals. “Back when I was working at Prince Court Medical Centre in 2008, I happened to meet two experienced dermatologists whose advice still sticks with me to this day. I remember them telling me that regardless of how advanced these aesthetic machines were, they were still built to suit a certain target market, which doesn’t necessarily cater to Asian skin types, particularly those with deeper skin tones.”

She stresses that because Asian skin is structured differently, the way it reacts to UV damage as well as laser treatments differs from the skin of those of European and Western Eurasian descent, as they redden instead of darken when burnt. “We have different undertones,” Dr Ravinpreet says. “Never mind if you’re of the fairer spectrum, because at the end of the day, machines imported from countries that have a different demographic from ours can potentially damage our skin.”
