A Dash Of Love

You’d think serving people all day, I wouldn’t remember anyone. Especially since my food van is constantly moving from place to place.

When I’m busy many faces are glimpsed and instantly forgotten – at least that’s usually the case, until the school fete today.

‘Hi, can I have two hot dogs, please?’ said the man, as he stepped towards the van.

Hazel eyes, wavy, close cropped hair. A pleasant face – unremarkable.

Then he smiled. Did I say unremarkable? Scratch that.

‘Sure, ready in a jiffy,’ I said as my heart fluttered.

When he walked away with his order, I noticed he glanced back before he disappeared into the crowds.

An hour later he was back. See how I didn’t forget his face? Not at all.

‘Hello again,’ I said.

‘Those hot dogs were the best I’ve ever had.’

‘Thanks, secret family recipe,’ I winked.

‘Really?’

I laughed. ‘No, though my dad did teach me no matter how humble the food, when prepared with love, it always makes a difference.’
