Did Someone Say Future Tech?
The Luxury Collection|Volume 7 Issue 2
For the majority of this century, EVs have been seen as future technology trying to disrupt the automotive world. Things are finally changing so let’s look at what’s in store for us.

Did Someone Say Future Tech?

I like nothing better than to bust some myths when I start a story so let’s begin with this – Electric vehicles aren’t future technology. They had a firm place in the world in our past and will be dominating the future of transportation. Back in the early 1900s, there were three vehicle propulsion fuels – steam, fossil fuel and electricity. It’s when oil started getting discovered in abundance that the world shifted dramatically to mass-produced internal combustion engines. But the keyword there is abundance – the endless reserves of oil, or so it was thought. Come to present and oil isn’t an abundant resource and the burning of it pollutes a lot. The climate crisis is real so the automotive industry has to set its priorities – make vehicles for regular use with electric propulsion and let the fun stuff stay with the good ol’ piston pumpers. And blur the lines in between.

Now that that’s said, where are we at and what’s in the future? I’ll leave all the electric 2 & 3 wheelers out of the way because even though that’s really the electric vehicle manufacturing future in India, we don’t care about the budget stuff much here. Let’s look at all the shiny metal on four wheels that will plug into a socket in India.

BABY ROVER

The Range Rover Evoque has always been one good-looking car. It is compact and sharp, and manages to capture the essence of the big Rangie but in a smaller size. Now, for 2024, there's a bit of a makeover. The usual stuff- a style update and a spruced-up interior. What caught my eye is the new Autobiography trim, taking cues from its inspiration. But the one we're cruising in is the Dynamic SE, which turns things a bit more sporty.
