Love is in the air in the lead up to Valentine’s Day, so get your tissues ready as these well-known personalities share their journey to the wedding aisle
It’s the little quirks that make people lovable. No one knows this better than May Wan’s husband Audric Haryadi, who was enamoured by a wrinkle under the model’s eye when he first saw a snapshot of her laughing. Eight years of wedded bliss and two adorable daughters later, the affable May still likes to joke that her significant other picked his bride out of a photo line-up.
HOW WE MET: “I got an offer for a modelling job in Jakarta in 2005. Some other models were approached too, and when they compiled everyone’s composite cards, the client asked his friend – my husband – to help him choose the best person for the job, and he chose me! He thought I was the cutest one. So, I always like to tease him and say that he chose his wife from a bunch of photos. When I flew to Jakarta afterwards, he picked me up at the airport, but sparks only flew after we had been friends for a year.”
HOW HE ASKED: “He took me to Banyan Tree in Bintan to celebrate our first year of dating. We were having a private candlelit dinner at this beautiful outcrop of rocks with waves crashing around us, and he pulled a book out of this plastic bag. Our photos were in it, as well as our love story. Then I got to a page that said, ‘Let’s take the next step’ and when I flipped the page, there was a ring. I burst out crying and said ‘Yes, yes, yes!’ through my tears. He really upped his game when he asked me to be his wife.”
