In a move that extends its reach for the first time beyond leather goods, accessories and fashion, to include food, luxury label Louis Vuitton has — in cooperation with celebrated chef Yosuke Suga — opened its first-ever cafe, Le Café V, and restaurant, Sugalabo V, atop the newly inaugurated Louis Vuitton Maison Osaka Midosuji. The four-storey flagship store is a close collaboration between architects Jun Aoki and New York-based Peter Marino, who both share a long-standing relationship with the French house. The luxury destination stands like a ship with billowing sails on the main shopping street of Midosuji in Osaka, with its heritage of being Japan’s most important port, a city that is appropriately proving to be a burgeoning travel hub. For, as all lovers of this mega brand will know, Louis Vuitton, the founder, started his leather goods company in 1854, with the creation of luggage, bags and accessories that reflected a genuine ‘Art of Travel’, and the love of travel has informed all designs and collaborations since.
