While It Might Not Seem Like the Obvious Choice, a Winter Holiday Has Loads to Offer. Here Are Eight Good Reasons to Save Your Leave for the Cold Season
Summer holidays are great – long, sunny days at the beach, exciting game drives, or camping with the family somewhere near a majestic mountain range: bliss! Looking through photos of holidays past is sure to bring back those happy memories and inspire you to start planning your next summer adventure.
How about that cute photo of the kids playing at the beach last year? Okay, so they look a little sunburnt – remember how cranky they were that night, because you forgot to apply more sunscreen immediately after their swim? And were there really that many other beach-goers? Gosh, that was quite a crowd. No matter, the holiday in the bush was the best one yet, anyway. Except it was swelteringly hot… and the lush overgrowth meant none of the Big Five could actually be seen during the game drive…
Bottom line: saving your big family holiday for winter certainly has its advantages – especially in South Africa, where the cold months are usually fairly mild, dry and sunny. Here are eight of them:
1 Far from the madding crowd
It can be hard to explore the beautiful surrounds of a holiday destination in peace when hundreds of holidaymakers have the same idea. Certain areas of South Africa are extremely popular during summer, and with good reason – they’re breathtakingly beautiful, with loads of fun activities and prime spots to kick back and relax with the whole family. Unfortunately, much of the joy of these spectacular destinations is diminished by having to constantly jostle your way through a crowd to get anywhere or do anything. Beaches, lodges, hotels and campsites are filled to capacity with guests.
