Team Thailand takes first place, followed by Team Singapore.
Competing against 34 teams of 114 amateur golfers from 40 countries, Team Thailand conquered the BMW Golf Cup International World Final 2016 with a total score of 317 points in the National Team Category, earning their first-ever victory at the tournament.
Team Singapore, represented by Chen Xiaoqin, Dennis Lim and Koh Hong Soon, proudly secured the runner-up position scoring a total of 298 points in the National Team Category. In the individual competitions, victory went to Tsung Hui Lee from Taiwan (Ladies, 104), Mexican Felipe Olvera (Men’s I, 113) and Htun Htun Soe (Myanmar, Men’s II, 106).
Colin Montgomerie was guest of honour at the World Final. Over the course of the week, he offered the finalists plenty of advice on how to play the two spectacular courses – the “Majlis Course” and the “Faldo Course” – both nestled in the desert landscape. The victorious Ryder Cup captain from 2010 thrilled all the participants with an exclusive golf clinic as well, after which he presented the trophies at the Gala Dinner.
Mr. Horst Herdtle, Managing Director of Performance Motors Ltd said, “We are happy to congratulate Team Singapore for securing second place at the BMW Golf Cup International World Final. Despite some tense moments over the course of the competition, they remained focused, composed and gave a fantastic account of themselves. The second place finish was the best ever result achieved by Team Singapore at the World Final. We are confident that this experience in Dubai will stand them in good stead for future tournaments. We would also like to congratulate Team Thailand on their maiden victory.”
Team Thailand took the win with 317 points (106-105-106) in the National Team Category, while the three Thai golfers took the following trophies for the individual categories:
