In the search to gain an advantage, Jens imagines a future where teams take control over their riders

Jens Voigt

Let’s be bold and speculate a little about some ways our sport might evolve in the future. Over the course of my career, from my amateur days up to my last Tour, I witnessed so many changes, particularly in the way we train. So much knowledge is available, and devices have been developed over the years which measure not only heart rate but power output, temperature, cadence and so on. The bikes are carbon fibre, they are more aerodynamic and lighter (and so is the clothing). All this has developed to what I think is pretty much the best it can be - bikes struggle, as it is, to not be under the UCI weight limit of 6.8kg, which I think the UCI should lower for the next season by 500 grams.
